Family Tied Up And Held Ransom In Home

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 – updated: 11:13 pm EDT August 19, 2008

Men with guns burst into a home, looking for one man. When they couldn't find him, police said they took their anger out on his family members. tying them up with electrical cord and holding them ransom.

Police in Chester County are trying to find those men while the people who live nearby react to the violence in their neighborhood.

Chester County sheriff's deputies said three men kicked open the door of a family's home, then grabbed the cell phone from one of the victim's, and used it to call his son. Police said they told him they'd kill his entire family unless he gave them $5,000.

Larry Horton is a long-time neighbor to the family on Hunter Road near Richburg, held hostage by three masked men early Tuesday morning.

"I'm kind of scared myself, because I live here by myself," he said.

Deputies said the gunmen were looking for 23-year-old Laron Fourney, who has outstanding charges for drug possession and having a stolen gun., but he wasn't home. So, sheriff Robby Benson said, the robbers went after his family.

"They tied them up with lamp cords, and they wouldn't let them go anywhere," he said.

Even Fourney's grandparents were bound, his father pistol-whipped. There was also a one-year-old girl in the home. Deputies blocked both ends of Hunter Road, but were too late.

"By the time we got to the residence, and got the road shut down, and we found the individuals had already left," Benson said.

Deputies discovered the family locked in a bathroom. Fortunately, they were ok, but Horton is stunned, because he's known his neighbors since high school.

"I don't really know what to say, trouble coming this close to home," he said

Because the men wore masks, sheriff's investigators don't have a very good description of them. They called out bloodhounds, and the sled helicopter to try and find them overnight, but they still haven't been found.
