CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Small Business Administration opened up loan outreach centers Saturday to help flood victims from flooding at the end of August.Near record amounts of rainfall were dumped on Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties along with Lancaster and York counties in South Carolina. The rain that hit on Aug. 26 and 27 were from the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay.The loans are to help anyone affected by the flooding then. Residents and businesses can apply for a low-interest disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Association.Loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners for damaged real estate and up to $40,000 for personal property damage. There are two outreach centers, one in Cabarrus County, the other in Mecklenburg. In Cabarrus, it’s located at the old Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office on Corban Avenue in Concord. In Mecklenburg, it’s at the Hal Marshall Annex on North College Street in Charlotte. Both centers are open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Officials there said if anyone is unsure about the damage to their home, just come to one of the centers.“The best thing to do is assume that there’s a possibility it can cover everything,” said Dave Canaan, from the Mecklenburg County Storm Water Services. “Come down, fill out an application, talk to the state and federal employees who are here to help and then we can take it from there.”
