Murder Charges Dropped Against Teen In Step-Father's Shooting

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. -- Murder charges have been dropped against an Avery County teen accused of killing his step- father two years ago.The murder trial for Derrick Palmer had originally been set to start Monday.Before the district attorney threw out the charges, prosecutors said Palmer shot his step-father in August 2006. Palmer told Eyewitness News he did it to protect his mother.
