Girlfriend Testifies Against Man Accused Of Charlotte-Area Crime Spree

Stephanie Storey testified Tuesday she was Phillip Watts's girlfriend during the time police say he was terrorizing York County, robbing convenience stores, and shooting people, putting the entire county on edge.

Storey told the jury Tuesday afternoon that there was no doubt in her mind that he's guilty.

Storey said she'd once been to Wal-Mart with Watts to buy bullets for his 22-caliber revolver. Police say Watts used that gun in the January 20th robbery of a One-Stop Exxon in Rock Hill--the crime that Watts is on trial for.

Storey said she deliberately hid Watts from police then, one night in a Chester motel, decided she'd had enough. She later led police to Watts, who was arrested at a Rock Hill apartment complex February 18th.

Watts confessed to seven armed robberies but denied that confession in court on Monday and deneid signing any statement. Detective Tim Hager read part of the statement in court--a statement he heard Watts give, and saw him sign.

Watts is also charged with six other armed robberies, where four people were shot. The jury is not hearing about those cases, because Watts is being tried for one robbery first.
