County Commissioner Died Of Rare Blood Disease

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The family of Mecklenburg County Commissioner Valerie Woodard said the 56-year-old died of TTP.Woodard passed away Friday.TTP is a rare blood disease that causes a low platelet count and microscopic blood clots.Woodard served three terms as a Democratic commissioner. She was running for re-election unopposed.Visitation for Woodard is Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home on Statesville Avenue from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.The funeral will be Thursday at noon at St. Paul Baptist Church on Allen Street.
