Man Turns Himself In For Deadly Charlotte Shooting

Saturday, October 11, 2008 – updated: 9:23 am EDT October 13, 2008

A man turned himself in to authorities Sunday after police said he shot and killed a 20-year-old man.

Officers said that at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police were called to Montezuma Trail near East W.T. Harris Boulevard. That’s where police said they found Larry Gaither inside a home with at least one gunshot wound.

Gaither was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said Gaither was trying to break up a fight involving Marty Gaston. That's when police said Gaston shot Gaither.

Gaston turned himself in at noon Sunday to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police said Gaston was taken into custody without incident.
