GASTONIA, N.C. -- A man missing for 10 days in Gastonia was found dead Saturday, a family member said.

Michael Stewart said he found his uncle Nick Haigler, 74, in a dense part of the woods near Linwood Park in Gastonia.

Haigler wandered away from his assisted living home, but had been spotted on Linwood Road. More than 50 family members and friends went out Saturday morning to search for Haigler. It only took 45 minutes to find the body, Stewart said. Gastonia Police are investigating, but do not believe foul play was involved.

Stewart was thankful to the volunteers.

"It was just an overwhelming amount of people that came out to help," Stewart said. "With family, friends, four-wheelers, people we didn't even know us, little girls from ROTC coming out to hand out fliers. It was just a great service that they did for us."

Stewart said Sunday would have been Haigler's 75th birthday.
