Bank of America 500 Takes On A Political Twist

Saturday, October 11, 2008 – updated: 11:17 pm EDT October 11, 2008

The race to the White House, Congress and North Carolina governor roared through Lowe’s Motor Speedway Saturday night.

For a short time, the real race car drivers took a back seat to a political racing agenda.

Presidential candidate John McCain's wife, Cindy was a big name at the track.

Race fan Billy Langley was surprised when she walked by. "I'm glad to see her out here. This is racing area for Republicans. I'm pulling for them (and) glad she's making her presence.”

Langley may be a Republican, but Democrats like Jean Brown also struggled for a view of the woman who may be our country's next first lady.

"I think it's wonderful that she's down here. Democrat or not, I would vote for McCain. Cindy seems like a wonderful person,” Brown said.

Sen. Elizabeth Dole and gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory were also among the “who's who” at the track.

Superstar singer Jessica Simpson had a showing of fans all to herself as she prepared to sing for thousands of race fans.
