CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers arrested 17-year-old Eric Hill after he barricaded himself inside an apartment at the Brittany Woods Apartment Complex on Chippendale Road in the Oakhurst community of south Charlotte on Monday afternoon.Police and SWAT officers flooded the neighborhood after K-9 officers tracked Hill to the apartments, where, police said, Hill kept them at bay for nearly two hours.Police said Hill and another suspect broke into a home on nearby Shade Valley Road and stole a television and two guns. Police evacuated the entire complex and even locked down Oakhurst Elementary School for a short time.Investigators said there have been several break-ins in the area during the past few weeks and neighborbood association president Grace Watkins said they're now trying to start a neighborhood watch."I keep telling my neighbors: 'This is your neighborhood, this is your business,'" she said. "So it is your business to know who's walking around in the streets. And if somebody does look suspicious, then you do need to call 911. It's not a wasted effort."Police are still looking for a second suspect, but Watkins said many of her neighbors are breathing a sigh of relief with the first arrest."I know that some of our neighbors have been feeling a little antsy recently so it's a good thing to know that we can kind of be at rest at this point," she said."Police said they're also looking into the possibility Hill could be connected to break-ins the community has seen recently.
