I-77 Back Open After Deadly Wreck

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer truck.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Thursday near West Catawba Avenue, mile marker 28, in Cornelius. Investigators took the SUV away from the scene around 11:15 p.m.

Medic said one person died at the scene. Two people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center. One person had potentially life-threatening injuries, the other non-life-threatening.

The DOT told Channel 9 all lanes of I-77 are back open for the Friday morning commute.
