CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Friday morning was very foggy in the Charlotte area. Eyewitness News reporter Kara Lusk was out testing visibility and talking to troopers about potential problems on the roads.

North Carolina State troopers said it is best to use low beams while driving in fog. Using high beams can cause worse visibility.

"You'll see a hazard on the side of the road, such as a deer, that you know you maybe could react to in time if you were actually able to see it, but the fog diminishes your sight distance so much that when this animal jumps out into the roadway, there's a good chance you're going to strike it," said Trooper Jeff Nash.

Troopers also said to slow down and be aware of your surroundings because fog can reduce visibility to a quarter of a mile or less.
