CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mecklenburg County's district attorney said on Friday that he will not bring charges against an officer who shot and killed a suspect six months ago in north Charlotte. Aaron Winchester was hit twice in the back.Police said Winchester pulled a gun as he ran from the officer and turned as if he were trying to aim the gun. District Attorney Peter Gilchrist said one witness had a clear view of the shooting and saw Winchester pull out a weapon."It came down to a man drawing a firearm on an officer in the process of doing an investigation," Gilchrist said, "and a police officer firing in self-defense."Relatives of Winchester's mother told Channel 9 Eyewitness News that she was too "exhausted" to comment on the decision.
