CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mecklenburg County's sheriff may keep millions of dollars for his budget after he appealed proposed budget cuts on Monday.Sheriff Chipp Bailey met with officials from the office of County Manager Harry Jones on Monday.Last week, Jones called for an $8 million cut to the sheriff’s office.Bailey said that was just too much."We can't do that without closing some facilities and having a major impact on our operations an in fact on public safety," Bailey said on Monday. After meeting with the sheriff, Jones told Eyewitness News he will now recommend a cut of only $6.1 million.Jones had proposed a total cut of $38 million from the county's budget. It's unclear whether the $2 million no longer coming from the Sheriff's office will come from another county program.
