Cincheeria Chambers often walks from her Fort Lawn home to a memorial for her seven-year-old son. It's covered with flowers, balloons, and a teddy bear."I miss John every day. I don't have my son, and honestly that's something that will never ever be right again," chambers said.On Tuesday 17-year-old Antonio Celey was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death. Fort Lawn police say on December 28th Celey stole a pickup truck from the parking lot of the wagon wheel restaurant at Highway 9 and Highway 21. The keys had been left inside. The next day, the truck's owner saw it heading down Shirley Street, and followed it. Chief Mike Revels says Celey sped off down Highway 9 with an eleven year-old, and 7-year-old John Bailey inside. They were all friends from the same neighborhood, and had somehow gotten in the truck with Celey.Revels said the truck's owner tried to stop them. "When he tried to confront the driver of his truck, the driver took off. The vehicle turned right on Highway 9, lost control, began sliding, and fishtailing. At some point the child was ejected from the vehicle."Bailey fell out of the truck at 45 to 50 miles an hour, and was killed on impact with the pavement. Police say celey kept going, and later slammed the pickup into a house, then ran with the eleven-year-old boy. He later turned himself in, and admitted he was the driver. The horrific incident happened just four days after Christmas. "He still had presents he hadn't even opened and played with yet," his mother said. "Things have not been the same for me and my family."Celey is deaf and mute according to family members, and often played with younger children in his neighborhood. After the accident police needed an interpreter to help question him. His family has since moved away to Great Falls.Just weeks after Bailey's death Lancaster, police arrested Celey in another incident involving a stolen car. Police say he led an officer on a chase through Lancaster on February 4th.He drove wildly for several miles, knocking over road signs, and crossing the median before stopping on Highway 200 south, and running into the woods. Reports show Celey was hit with a Taser after refusing police commands to put his hands behind his back. He's still in jail at the Lancaster County Detention Center. If Celey is convicted of leaving the scene of an accident involving death he could face up to 25 years in prison.John Bailey left behind a younger sister, and a brother. His mother says they cry together a lot, but she can't really explain what happened to five-year-old Bree. "I tell her he's in a better place, but at the same time she doesn't have anyone to play with. She doesn't have anyone to talk to. She cries every day, tells me she misses John."Chambers doesn't have the money to pay for a headstone for Bailey's grave. There's a charity ride on May 9 to raise money for that purpose. If you want to get involved, meet at the Bojangles on Carowinds Boulevard at 10 that morning. You can call (803) 209 2049 or (803) 209-7238 for more information.
