Woman Looking For Parking Space Lands In Sinkhole

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A minivan got stuck in a sinkhole Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte's Myers Park neighborhood. The pavement gave way under the vehicle's right wheel at the intersection of Selwyn Avenue and Wellesley Road.The driver, Samantha Williams, told Channel 9 Eyewitness News she was on her way to her niece's recital and had been looking for a parking space near Queens University."And I was sitting here at the stop sign and all of a sudden my car just went down. And I'm like, 'OK, is that a flat tire?' So, I immediately got out," Williams said.Williams was not hurt. She walked to the recital and actually got there on time.When she returned to the scene, a tow truck operator was trying to figure out how to remove the minivan from the hole.Police said the immediate area would be closed at least through Tuesday evening.
