CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- A highway in Caldwell County will be closed for weeks as crews clean up a massive rockslide.Rocks as big as cars toppled down a mountainside onto Highway 90, in the western part of Caldwell County near Mortimer Campground.Department of Transportation workers told Eyewitness News reporter Dave Faherty that the slide was likely triggered by heavy rain earlier in the week. No one was hurt in the slide. The area is popular for fishing and other recreation, and Highway 90 is the main road through this remote area of the county.Mortimer Campground is still accessible, and crews will keep one lane of the road open through the weekend before completely closing it to clear the slide and reinforce the mountainside.
