Neighbor Chases Burglary Suspects Out Of South Charlotte Neighborhood

Posted: 6:38 pm EDT September 4, 2009

A man who says he takes it personally when someone breaks into his neighbors' homes called 911 and then followed three suspects at speeds up to 90 mph until police officers arrived and arrested them.

The man, who did not want his name revealed, told Eyewitness News he was driving on Carmel Road in south Charlotte on Thursday morning when he saw a car moving very slowly with three men inside looking from side to side.

When the car turned onto Carmel Vista Drive, he decided to follow. When he saw the car in an acquaintance's driveway, he called police.

The man told a 911 dispatcher that he heard the men kicking in the back door and then saw them carrying things out of the house. He stayed on the phone and called in directions to police officers as he followed the suspects' cars up Carmel Road.

When he saw the men turn onto a side street, he followed them, and as police pulled up, he said the men jumped and ran.

Officers arrested three suspects a short time later. Detectives said Tony Butler, Jordan Thompson and Marico Hogue are suspects in other break-ins in the south Charlotte area.
