CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Investigators said they don't believe a robbery and an attempted robbery with a shooting at Charlotte fast food restaurants are connected. The crimes happened just 30 minutes apart in north and northwest Charlotte.Shortly after 12:30 a.m., four men held up a Wendy’s on Sugar Creek Road near Interstate 85 in north Charlotte. An employee said four people in a car ordered at the drive-through, and when they pulled up to the window, one of the masked men jumped through the window with a gun.The man was wearing all black and gloves. He pointed a gun at a clerk's head as his accomplices, leaning into the window from a burgundy Ford Explorere, broke into the cash register. That clerk said she is so shaken up that she needs counseling, but no one was hurt.Detective Mike Smathers said the hardest part about solving the brazen robber is that the surveillance camera did not have a tape rolling. Then just after 1 a.m., two men in black hooded sweatshirts tried to rob a worker who was taking out the trash at the Pizza Hut on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road near Brookshire Boulevard in northwest Charlotte, officers said. One of the gunman shot the worker. The bullet went through his arm and lodged in his chest. The store manager said the worker is now in intensive care.Investigators said although they believe robbery was the motive, the gunmen didn’t get away with anything. So far, no arrests have been made.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
