Posted: 9:39 pm EDT October 29, 2009Updated: 10:00 pm EDT October 29, 2009

It may be several days before a four-lane road is back to normal in south Charlotte after a major water main break, Channel 9 Eyewitness News learned Thursday night.

A 24-inch water pipe burst on Wednesday night near Alexander Graham Middle School and spewed water and rocks onto Runnymede Lane.

Utility crews shut off the water and opened one lane in each direction on Runnymede on Thursday.

Workers will have to remove and replace 100 feet of pipe and that could take several days, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities Department.

After the pipeline is repaired, workers will have to fix the road and the sidewalk.
