HICKORY, N.C. -- Authorities said a man who robbed a northeast Hickory bank early Monday was looking for work moments after the holdup.Investigators said Glenn Wilson walked into the Bank of Granite on Springs Road shortly before 10:30 a.m. and demanded money. They said Wilson, 32, did not show a weapon and fled on foot.Officer arrived minutes later and used a police dog to track a scent from the bank to the Silver Springs Terrace Apartments nearby. The dog led them straight to Wilson’s door, police said.Officers arrested him and charged him with common law robbery. The suspect repeatedly denied he was involved as he was walked into the Hickory Police Department.“I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t do it,” Wilson told Eyewitness News. “I wish they would get the right person so they would leave me alone.”Glen Austin said he was pressure washing the apartment building and saw Wilson go into his home minutes before police arrived. He said Wilson told him he was unemployed and asked if he could get some work.Austin said he had no idea Wilson was suspected in a bank robbery.“Oh my God, no, he wasn't even running. He just acted normal," he said.Investigators said Wilson even asked police if they knew of any work in the area when they went to his apartment.Police said they found evidence inside the apartment linking Wilson to the bank robbery. Also, bank workers identified him in a lineup, officers said, and he appears to be the man seen on surveillance tape.Customers of the bank said they’re glad police made an arrest so quickly."I would say he got unlucky and that we got good policemen too, I think, to be able catch him that fast," said William Daniels.Wilson is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center under $50,000 bond. He was not charged with armed robbery because he did not show a weapon.
