Shots Fired At Charlotte City Councilman; Suspect Questioned

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police were questioning a suspect late Friday night after someone fired shots at a Charlotte city councilman who is also a state probation officer.Warren Turner was on Shadowood Lane in southwest Charlotte checking on a man who is on probation and was fired upon by someone he didn't know, police said.Turner was not hit by the gunfire.He ran after the person who fired, but that person got into a car and drove away, according to detectives.Police said Turner tried to follow the suspect's car but lost sight of it. Turner radioed a description to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.Officers spotted a car matching the description on Woodlawn Road and chased it to the parking lot of Clanton Presbyterian Church on Freeland Avenue.Police say the driver jumped out and ran, but they caught him.Officers took the suspect to police headquarters in uptown Charlotte for questioning.
