CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Monday morning, Gov. Bev Perdue will reveal a new plan to finish the final leg of Interstate 485 in Charlotte.Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory told Eyewitness News state and local leaders have been working for months to fine tune a plan that will not affect funding for other road projects in the city.Perdue's office would not say much about the announcement. A spokesperson said it would be "good news for Charlotte."The I-485 debate is nothing new in our area. In February, Perdue announced she would to finish the last leg of the interstate, but she did not say how the work would be paid for.Eventually the governor told local governments to use money from existing projects and even suggested they choose between finishing I-485, working on the Monroe Bypass or widening Independence Boulevard. That proposal did not sit well with local leaders. But McCrory said for months that leaders have been working to hammer out a plan everyone can agree with."I think politically we all knew a solution had to be found by the state to fulfill the promise," McCrory said Sunday.Charlotte mayor-elect Anthony Foxx said he's looking forward to Perdue's announcement."I'm hopeful tomorrow we will have some new news on how we'll move forward on badly needed road projects," Foxx said.
