Victims Of Two Mysterious Deaths Apparently Knew Each Other

Posted: 10:59 pm EST November 18, 2009

The father of a teenager found dead in York County in October said Wednesday evening that his daughter knew a woman whose body was found this week just five miles away.

Police identified the most recent body as that of Randi Saldana, 30, of Gastonia.

Saldana was found dead in Kings Mountain State Park on Sunday. Her body was so badly burned that police used a tattoo to identify her.

Heather Catterton, 17, also of Gastonia, was found dead near the park on October 29.

Nick Catterton told Channel 9 Eyewitness News he saw Saldana's picture Wednesday morning and recognized her as a woman who knew his daughter, Heather.

Catterton said Saldana and his daughter, "ran in the same crowd."

He said Saldana was at his home last Wednesday, two days after his daughter's funeral. Catterton believes the two deaths are not a coincidence.

"These girls run together and then two of them turn up dead in less than a month, they gotta be connected," Catteron said.

York County investigators were being tight-lipped about a possible connection but did say any time there are two murders within the same time frame, the investigations will cross.
