CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An elderly Iredell County woman was recently the victim of a scam that took place at her front door. Now, police have surveillance video of the couple who allegedly duped her.The 80-year-old woman, who did not want to be identified, said it started when a young couple rang her doorbell and asked about a camper she had for sale. While the victim showed the man around the camper, the young woman asked to use the bathroom. Once inside, she stole several belongings, including jewelry and credit cards. The woman called her bank and cancelled her credit card after the robbery. The couple was caught on tape trying to use the credit card at a CVS and a Food Lion in north Charlotte, allowing detectives to get a good look at them.“My grandfather always said you pay for it here or the hereafter, and their time is coming,” the victim said.Investigators said they believe the couple has done this before.Neighbors like Lynnease Armstrong are keeping an eye out for the elderly. She has started taking down tag numbers of suspicious cars."I think it’s really low,” she said. “I think it’s really low to take advantage of our senior citizens and all the things they have going on in their lives.”The 80-year-old woman said she is taking precautions and keeping a gun nearby."That's protection,” she said. She just hopes someone sees the video and is able to help detectives identify the couple.
