2 Men Hit By Train In Kannapolis

Two people died when they were hit by an Amtrak train outside a nursing home Friday.

Kannapolis police said 39-year-old Billy Richardson and 52-year-old Randy Davis were on the tracks when an Amtrak train hit them at 18th and North Main streets.

The train engineer said it looked like Davis had been trying to pull Richardson off the tracks around 6 p.m., but said he could not stop the train in time.

The accident caused several trains to be delayed for a couple of hours.

No one will be charged, police said.
