Meteorologist Katie Virtue said heavy rain is tracking north through Georgia and South Carolina toward Charlotte. Rounds of moderate to heavy rain will continue through the afternoon and evening hours.

The region will receive an average of 2 inches or more by the end of the day.

Low pressure will drag the rain north today as the center of the storm lifts from Alabama to Tennessee. As the storm deepens, winds will increase in the afternoon.

Gusts could reach 30 mph in Charlotte, with winds blazing over 40 mph in the high elevations of the mountains. Winds will decrease overnight as the storm begins to pull away, taking the rain away with them.
