Fifth Third Moving North Carolina HQ To Uptown

Fifth Third Bank is moving its North Carolina headquarters to uptown Charlotte, city leaders announced Wednesday.

The move from the company’s current University City headquarters will happen in June. The new office, which will be at 201 North Tryon Street, will be renamed the Fifth Third Center.

Officials said the bank plans to grow over the next three years and that 250 jobs could potentially be added.

  • The bank's current University Research Park headquarters will be taken over by Electrolux, the home appliance manufacturer that recently announced a move to Charlotte. The Queen City will be home to Electrolux's North American headquarters, adding more than 700 jobs to the region over the next five years.

After the move to uptown, Fifth Third plans to add more than 30 banking centers in Charlotte and Raleigh.

Bob James, the bank’s president and CEO, said the move will be beneficial to Charlotte, giving it an even bigger stronghold in the banking industry, and to his company.

“We believe this move uptown will give us increased visibility and presence and will allow us to take advantage of all the things that come with being in the central business district,” James said.
