LENOIR, N.C. -- A Lenoir day care owner was recently indicted by a Grand Jury and is facing a felony charge of taking indecent liberties with a child.Larry Cole and his wife have operated Debbie’s Darlings Day Care out of their home for nearly 25 years but now, he isn’t allowed to be around the children who attend it.According to a search warrant, a girl under the age of 7 told a family member that Cole touched her inappropriately during naptime at the day care.Police said they first learned of the allegation in November. The day care’s license was initially suspended while police investigated.Cole’s wife declined an on-camera interview, but told Eyewitness News her husband did nothing wrong. She added that she was at the day care at the time of the alleged incident and didn’t see anything. The day care is currently open, but police said Cole cannot be around the children. Court documents show that he still lists the home from which the day care is run as his address. The Department of Health and Human Services inspected the day care as recently as January and gave it high marks.Cole’s next court date is May 3.
