Police Arrest Rock Hill’s ‘Most Wanted’

Devon Mobley, 16, said he knows he's lucky to be alive. On March 1, he was with friends on Taylor Street in Rock Hill when a bullet ripped into his back, and came out through his shoulder.

“On the way to the hospital, I thought I was going to die,” he said. “I was just praying, and here I am, thank God."

Mobley is one of two people Rock Hill police said was shot by 18-year-old Antwan Agers. Agers was listed as Rock Hill's most wanted man until a Crime Stoppers tip led police to him Tuesday afternoon.

Agers faces 13 charges, including multiple counts of armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill. Police said they connected him to three shooting incidents.

The first two happened within 30 minutes of each other on Dec. 17. Police said Cordarrel Thrower was shot in the back on Russell Street and then, minutes later, Agers fired at two young men in a car on Carolina Avenue Extension.

On the day he was shot, Mobley said Agers rode by on a bicycle. He said he and his friends were concerned because of how Agers looked.

“We got suspicious because his head was all covered up,” Mobley said. “He started shooting at the ground and we all were just looking at him. Then I saw him raise up the gun, and we all took off running, looking for cover.”

Rock Hill police have not released a motive for any of the shootings.

Thrower and Mobley are both still recovering from gunshot wounds. Agers said little in a court appearance Wednesday, but seemed surprised when the judge denied his bond, and called him a public threat.

“So I don't get no bond?” he asked the judge. “Why not?”

Agers faces more than 30 years in prison if he's convicted of the charges he faces. He is due in court again May 18.
