MONROE, N.C. -- A judge reached a guilty verdict in Monroe in the case of the woman accused of keeping hundreds of dogs living in filthy conditions.
Dolores Perez was found guilty of animal cruelty after more than 250 dogs were found on her property in Union County in April.
A criminal trial and civil trial filed by by the Humane Society started Monday. The decision on both cases was made by a Union County judge.
The Humane Society negotiated with Perez before the start of Monday's trial, but could not reach an agreement.
In losing both the criminal and the civil trial, Perez will not be allowed to own a pet again.
Perez wanted compensation for the 253 dogs that were taken from her home. Instead, she will pay fines for the conviction as well as the cost of assisting the neglected animals before they were sent to foster homes.
Perez and her attorney say they will appeal both rulings.
