School Gun Incident Prompts Changes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a teen fired a gun Monday morning inside Marie G. Davis Middle School in west Charlotte.
Authorities say the 13-year-old boy had hidden a handgun in his jacket pocket.The bullet hit the floor and ricocheted off of a wall.Nobody was hurt and the incident was ruled an accident.The teen is charged with possession of a firearm on school property.Additional charges are pending.The teen is being held at a juvenile detention center.Parent Jennifer Perkins-Randolph said her daughter spotted the boy with the gun."This is something you should never have to think about. Your children's safety at school is something you shouldn't even think about," Perkins-Randolph said.School officials say random metal detector checks will be implemented in all middle schools.
