Updated: 8:13 a.m. EDT April 17, 2004

Police filed drug and weapons charges late Friday night against Roddie Phillip Dumas, Sr., the father of a little boy killed Friday afternoon by the family's four pit bull dogs.

Homicide detectives and drug officers charged the father after gathering evidence from Dumas's home on Brentwood Place in west Charlotte where the dogs attacked and killed 8-year-old Roddie Dumas, Jr.

Dumas, Sr., sold drugs from his house, police said.

Officers charged him with trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and distribute, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police said late Friday night they will present their evidence to the district attorney who will decide if murder charges will be filed in the case.
