Lightning Keeps Mecklenburg County Fire Crews Busy

Posted: 11:57 p.m. EDT May 23, 2004

Eyewitness news found out within a one-hour period, at least three of those calls were to people's homes.

The first was in South Charlotte at the Carmel On Providence Apartments. The complex was evacuated before firefighters got to the scene. Fire officials tell us this fire burned out one apartment and two apartment attics.

A short time later, in North Mecklenburg County, firefighters were called to another home where lightning struck. The homeowner tells us his down spout was all but destroyed.

A third home in Northwest Mecklenburg County was also hit, but there was minimal damage.
