Man Dies After Tree Falls On Golf Cart

NEWTON, N.C. -- Authorities in Catawba County say one person was killed after a tree fell onto a golf cart Thursday afternoon.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Catawba Country Club on Country Club Road in Newton.Another man was transported to the Catawba Valley Medical Center.Authorities said he suffered only slight injuries.Deputies say winds were blowing very hard Thursday afternoon and that may have led to the collapse of the 30-year-old tree.Officials say the man killed was not a member of the club.
