UNION CO., S.C. -- Sunday, Union County sheriff's deputies showed Eyewitness News the dirt ring inside a barn in Mineral Springs where they say the illegal cockfighting took place. Almost 60 birds were seized from the barn Saturday after authorities acted on a tip from a concerned citizen.
Deputies also seized blades and spikes that were put on the birds' feet. $1,200 in bets was also confiscated.
The misdemeanor charges filed against 51 people carry a $500 fine and up to six months in jail.
