The shooting happened in the Double Oaks neighborhood when gunmen in two stolen vehicles fired 80 rounds at each other. The victim's girlfriend, Kristen Jones, said bullets ripped through their house in north Charlotte and hit her boyfriend, Curtis Washington, as he sat on the bed.

Curtis Washington's family was sitting on the bed when he was shot in the stomach by a stray bullet.

"At the time, I laid down with the baby because he was asleep. Then we heard [gunfire.]" said Jones.

Washington was shot and hit the floor.

"I didn't know what to do because I'm screaming," she said. "I jump up and call 911. He said he was shot in his stomach."

Jones said Washington is in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center.

She said they are never coming back to their house.

"We are leaving. I have to leave. I can't do it by myself," said Jones.

According to police, the men in the stolen vehicles drove up the street, shooting at each other and showering the neighborhood with bullets.

Police counted 80 rounds fired with several bullets going through five apartments.

Neighbor Virginia Lewis said it sound like the shot were being fired in the next room.

"I didn't want to look because I was scared that maybe I would get shot. So I just laid there with her [baby]" she said.

Jones wonders if she'll ever have her boyfriend back.

"It's not right. It's not right. I'm very hurt because that is my heart," she said.

Jones said the doctors told her that they would know more about Washington's condition in the next 48 hours. They said it would be Jones' love and the love for their family that will pull him through.

Earlier this week, Eyewitness News reported about both of the stolen vehicles.

The Lexus used in the shooting was stolen from an Auto Bell Carwash, just outside Uptown Charlotte on Sunday.

The second vehicle was a Kia, stolen in January. A man used the vehicle to rob a couple getting their mail in north Charlotte on Wednesday.
