A teacher from Quail Hollow Middle School in south Charlotte is accused of assaulting a student.

Parent Deannah Baker thinks teachers should not retrain students at all.

The boy's mother said the teacher fractured her son's elbow. The school district said the teacher received special training to know how to restrain students.

Carolyn Hudson has a child at Quail Hollow Middle School.

"I try to have trust in the staff there. I don't know the circumstances, but I would like to think they were doing the best that they could and that an accident occurred," she said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District isn't saying much about what happened to the 12-year-old boy.

A spokesperson said the teacher has been suspended with pay while the incident is being investigated, and that he has been trained to be able to restrain someone.

The district and police also say the child is considered a special needs student.

Parent Angela Grant finds the situation unsettling.

"It's sort of disturbing because you don't know all the circumstances and with that child being a special needs child, again it's hard to judge because you weren't there," she said.

Other parents, like Deannah Baker think teachers should not retrain students at all.

"I think that's wrong. I believe in punishing children for a circumstance, but I don't think schools should be able to do that," she said.
