A man is in serious condition at Carolinas Medical Center after he fell off the back of a pontoon boat and got caught in the propeller.

The boating accident happened near the Holiday Marina on Lake Norman Saturday afternoon.

Catherine McIntyre and her family are regulars at the marina. "Sadly, I've come to expect to something like that to happen on a boating weekend like this one with a_lot of traffic and a_lot more people on the lake," she said.

Police who patrol Lake Norman say they do not know if alcohol was a factor in the accident, but police tell us the boat was traveling at very low speed when the man fell off.
