Expect Heavier Traffic For First Day Of School

Posted: 3:36 pm EDT August 24, 2005

Get ready for heavier traffic on the roads Thursday as thousands of students head back to the classroom.

School starts for more than 120,000 Charlotte-Mecklenburg students in the morning and that means heavier traffic on the roads.

Buses and parents will be dropping off children at schools.

Four schools are off of highway 115 in Huntersville including North Mecklenburg High School, the biggest high school in the state.

"If you are working in Charlotte, don't take that route," said Huntersville Police Capt. Michael Kee.

Police said give yourself plenty of time to get to work Thursday.

Huntersville police will have extra officers out helping guide drivers through intersections.
