Police Label 'Gang Headlight' E-mail An Urban Myth
Posted: 11:42 p.m. EDT September 23, 2005
Charlotte, NC -- Police want to put an end to what, they call, an urban myth that's been spreading through Charlotte.
An e-mail is circulating which claims that this is gang initiation weekend.
It warns that gang members are driving around with their head lights off and that the first driver who flashes their lights at the car becomes a target.
But police captain Keith Dinkins says don't believe it.
"It's totally urban myth," said Dinkins, "There's no fact in it."
Dinkins says the myth is an old rumor which resurfaces every few years.
"It started like 20 years ago with the Hell's Angels," said Dinkins.
He advised people to "just disregard it!"
Captain Dinkins says CMPD's gang intelligence unit sent out a memo to officers Friday night just to remind them that there is no truth to this urban myth.
