MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Two teenagers from the Bible Baptist Christian School are in a juvenile detention center, accused of threatening to kill teachers and students at the school.Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they learned of the alleged plan about two weeks ago and arrested the juveniles on Oct. 24 at the school on Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews.According to police, classmates of the two 15-year-olds notified school administrators, who then notified the police. They have charged the teens with conspiracy.Bible Baptist Christian School parent Mike Davis was stunned to learn of the alleged plot."I don't think anyone knows. That's something else that makes it so shocking. What caused it? They seemed to be happy in school, as far as I could tell when I would see them around church," he said.Davis has spoken to the parents of one of the suspects and said they're trying their best to get through. He said he's very proud of how the church and school responded."I admire them for doing that. They could have not said anything -- didn't want to sell out their friends -- but this was a dangerous situation and they took the initiative and did what they should," said Davis.Bible Baptist Christian School pastor the Rev. Ron Allen said he is surprised and he is praying for the two boys."We want to help the boys. They are obviously troubled and we want to help them and their families during this time," said Allen.School administrators said the same two students were expelled at the start of last school year for an unrelated matter. Officials said the two students remained out all year long, but was readmitted to the school after an extensive interview and counseling session."It appeared to us that everything was moving along well. But certainly with simple human nature, we can do anything. We had no reason to suspect that anything like this kind of thing was going on in their heads. We were surprised by it," said Allen.Police said they hesitated to tell the public about the shooting plot because there was no reason to believe the public was in any danger and they felt that releasing certain portions of their information would have hampered their investigation. There are about 135 students and 16 teachers in attendance at Bible Baptist Christian School.Besides the regular subjects, the school also has chapel services for students.
