Eastland Mall Says Shooting Was Isolated Incident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Eastland Mall officials said shoppers should feel safe, despite a shooting inside the mall on Monday. They said it was an isolated incident.Officials at the mall said they are re-evaluating their security plan, as they do regularly.Police said the incident started when a fight erupted between 12 young men. They said one man pulled out a gun and started shooting.Shoppers said there was chaos as people ran to escape gunfire.One person was shot twice and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.Police in the Eastway division said they were surprised to hear of the violence at Eastland Mall. They said it had been quite in the area for the past two months.Community leaders said they agree that the shooting was an isolated incident. They said the community needs to form programs to help keep teens out of trouble.Officials said two men were detained for questioning.
