Suspect Arrested In Deadly West Charlotte Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police have arrested the 17-year-old they suspect shot and killed another teen outside the West Charlotte Recreation Center on Wednesday afternoon.Homicide investigators say Randall Adams Jr., who turns 18 next week, shot 18-year-old Antonio Londale Raye on Senior Drive, just one block from West Charlotte High School. Police believe the two were arguing, which escalated into a fist fight before shots were fired around 3:45 p.m.Raye was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he died just after 5 p.m.Staff at the recreation center said they were surprised Raye was shot. They said he often hung out there and got along with everyone.Friends set up a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles at the site of the deadly shooting."Everybody liked him; everybody loved him because he was the type of person that would come by and make everybody laugh," said Demetria Funderburk, who grew up with Raye. "He was a really nice person. He got along with everybody."Adams was taken into custody late Wednesday evening.Police said Raye's death marked the 45th homicide in Charlotte this year.
