You know how some people look nothing like they sound? Like, you listen to a radio DJ and he sounds like he's young, tall, in great shape--then you see him one day and he's a short, fat, bald, old man. Well, I had one of those experiences while doing this story. I expected some singing and harmonizing - but I really wasn't ready to hear the deep bass coming from granny. So, the old cliché once again holds true. You truly cannot judge a book by it's cover. In this case it's a pleasant surprise--that's almost never the case with radio DJs. If they looked like they sounded they'd be on TV.The SouthernYankees are by no means the only four women out there singing in a Barbershop Quartet.Get this, Sweet Adelines International, the official organization for this type of thing claims 27,000 members, 1,200 quartets and 600 choruses. That's a whole lot more than a barbershop full of harmony right there. As a matter of fact their motto is "Harmonize the World".14 countries besides the U.S. have Sweet Adeline Chapters -- but they all sing in English. Out of all those ladies, in all those places we have four of the best right here in our own back yard. I've included a slideshow of SouthernYankees. You can get to it by clicking here. Also, If you want to know more about the Ladies or this kind of singing, check out their site.SouthernYankees.net
