Action 9 investigates how long Harvey will impact gas prices

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s been nearly a week since the gas pipelines from the Gulf were restored after Hurricane Harvey hit, but many drivers are still waiting to see if gas prices in the Carolinas will drop.

Gas experts, such as GasBuddy, said people are still feeling the impact of Harvey, but prices will start to drop soon.

The bad news is that it will take time, and drivers may not see pre-Harvey prices for weeks.

It’s because even though prices jumped quickly, the flow of gas back into our area is picking up gradually.

There are about 1,200 stations in the Charlotte area. GasBuddy said only 69 are out of gas, and those are mostly independent stations, not the big brand names.

The good news is that Hurricane Irma did not affect the Gulf, so the situation the storm won’t make the gas situation worse.
