Crews put street lamp in wrong spot

CHARLOTTE — Stephanie Hernaiz, who lives in northeast Charlotte, walks her dog Lexi at night, but there were no street lamps near her house.

"It was so pitch dark,” she said. “I actually started to carry a little, small flashlight so I could actually see where she drops her business and I could pick it up."

So she asked the builder, M/I Homes, if a mistake had been made.

The company said ‘yes’ and that a lamp was missing, she said.

So it asked Duke Energy to put one in, closer to Hernaiz's house.  Duke Energy installed it, but it was on her front yard, instead of on the strip on grass between the street and the sidewalk like all of the other lamps.

"I was upset," she said.

She complained and said she got the runaround, and then turned to Action 9.

Action 9 contacted Duke Energy, since it's the one that installs the lamps, not the builder.

Duke said that "there was an error on the work order."

It wouldn't give details, but admitted the light was installed wrong and roughly three weeks later, the light was installed in the right location.

"Thanks to you, they finally came and did it the right way," she said. "I feel wonderful."

Duke Energy decides where street lamps go and installs them, not the builder.  If you have a problem, reach out to Duke Energy directly, and if that doesn't work, contact Action 9.
