STREAMING LIVE: News Conference for Union County triple homicide case

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The Union County Sheriff’s office announced Wednesday night it had made an arrest in connection to a triple homicide that happened in Marshville early Saturday morning.

Randall Hank Morrison, 24, of 1019 Landsford Road was arrested Wednesday night on a warrant issued through the magistrate’s office, deputies said.

"We assured the community that we would do our best to solve this crime, and we believe that we have lived up to that commitment," said Sheriff Eddie Cathey. "I am extremely appreciative of the investigators who have worked nonstop to solve this case, and the citizens of the county should be proud of the dedicated men and women who have worked tirelessly to pursue investigative leads, collect evidence and conduct interviews."

Cathey did not disclose the details that led to the arrest, but said that evidence that belonged to the three victims has been tied back to Morrison.

The three victims -- Ronnie Dale Overcash, Jerry Wayne Marsh and Crystal Dawn Hicks – were found at the residence located at the Landsford Road residence, which is next door to the suspect's home.

Investigators have not said how the three were killed, but confirmed that a shotgun and a knife were used during the crime.

Overcash and Marsh were found inside the home. Hicks’ body was found in a wooded area outside the home.

Morrison’s mother, Linda, said she found Hicks’ body, then her son went inside and found the other two victims.

In an off-camera interview over the weekend, the accused man described the scene as extremely bloody. He said Hicks was his cousin.

Morrison has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Morrison is currently being held without bond at the Union County Jail pending a district court appearance on Aug. 7.

The sheriff’s office has scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. Thursday at the sheriff’s office in Wingate.
