Action 9: Man says movers caused damage

By Don Griffin

MOORESVILLE, N.C. —

A Mooresville man said his movers broke his pool table and damaged his sprinkler system.

Hoyt Overbagh hired a mover to transport bigger items in his Mooresville home to move to Richmond.

But Overbagh said Primary Moving dropped his pool table and drove a van over his irrigation system.

“They broke the sprinkler head out of the ground,” he said.

The mover agreed to pay damages amounting to just over $600.  Overbagh said Primary sent him emails claiming the check had been mailed.

“We complained to them repeatedly, even to the extent of asking our lawyer to call them,” Overbagh said. “They continued to promise.”

Complaints about movers have prompted the BBB to issue a consumer alert as moving season hits high gear. The BBB blames part of the problem on the fact that some movers use day laborers.

To protect yourself, BBB President Tom Bartholomy said to make sure the movers are not only licensed, but have proper liability insurance to cover any damage they cause.

After Action 9 called Primary Moving and Storage of Hickory, the owner mailed Overbagh his $636 check.
