Cabarrus taking applications for matching incentive grant projects

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — The Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks Commission is accepting applications for local matching incentive grant projects.

The incentive grant program encourages community groups to work in partnership with county government to develop recreation facilities that transform and enhance overlooked areas into neighborhood treasures. The grants provide up to 50 percent of the actual project cost, based on the amount approved by the commission.

Examples of groups that can apply for funds are parent-teacher organizations, civic clubs, athletic or recreation associations, and booster clubs. The location of the improvement must be on property owned by Cabarrus County, Cabarrus or Kannapolis boards of education, a municipality within the county, or property leased to the county for a minimum of 15 years.

The Cabarrus County Active Living & Parks Department Office will accept grant applications starting May 6, with the application deadline at 5 p.m. on June 14.

Applicants will formally present their proposals at the Active Living and Parks Commission's June 20 meeting. The Commission will submit their recommendations to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners, which will award grants for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
