City Council delays vote on Dilworth Walgreens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte City Council members are delaying the vote on a controversial Walgreens in Dilworth.

The proposed drugstore would replace a house on the corner of Kenilworth and Morehead.

The community is divided on the project. Some say it would be a welcome addition, but others say the Walgreens would hurt the neighborhood's historic character.

“I think it'd be good for the people because it's easy access to their medicine (and) pharmacy. It's a store right beside the hospital,” said Kumar Smith.

“I think it's a bad idea. There's too many places in Charlotte where you can put a Walgreens,” Chris Bankhead said.

The council postponed the vote because not enough members were there to vote Monday night. It's rescheduled for Nov. 26.
